Cox Communications blocking users from file-sharing sites

The fourth-largest ISP, Cox Communications, is allegedly blocking its subscribers access to file-sharing sites.

In a study, about 54% of Cox subscribers were blocked from file-sharing sites. According to the AP, users were not completely blocked from the sites, but there was a delay in the users’ access to the site.

Cox’s subscriber agreement does state that the company engages in “protocol filtering” and most recently, the company said, “To ensure the best possible online experience for our customers, Cox actively manages network traffic through a variety of methods including traffic prioritization and protocol filtering.”

So, what do you think? Do you think that this practice is okay? Do you actually believe Cox’s reasoning for these methods?
