Protect yourself from domain registration spam and scams

Once you purchase a domain, you will be bombarded by spammers and scammers through your email account and your physical mailbox.

If you’ve just registered your domain, the bulk of the unsolicited mail will attempt to get you to fork over more money through the purchase of web hosting.

Once it’s about time for you to renew your domain, the letters are usually crafted to look as if they came from your domain registrar. The scammers will outline methods that you can renew your domain with your registrar them.

They get your information in the first place through domain look-up services. So, the best way to prevent 99% of this unsolicited mail is to register your domain using Domain Privacy. This feature still lets third-parties send unsolicited mail, but the mail is actually sent to your domain registrar. Some registrars do give customers the option to automatically reject these mailings, though.
